Young Person Support

At Fun 4 Young People our primary focus for young people is to support their wellbeing, confidence, and personal development through safe, creative, and inclusive opportunities. Through dedicated pastoral care and meaningful, face-to-face engagement, we take the time to listen, understand, and respond to each individual’s needs.

Our On-Going Support

Through our pastoral care, we provide compassionate support to help young people feel safe, build positive relationships, and develop healthy ways to support wellbeing and cope with life challenges.

What is Pastoral Support?

  • Listening and caring: Providing a safe, non-judgmental space where young people can talk about what’s on their mind.

  • Emotional guidance: Helping them manage feelings, build confidence, and develop coping strategies for life’s challenges. Including our REACH Wellbeing Programme.

  • Personal development: Supporting them to build resilience, self-esteem, and positive relationships.

  • Practical help: Offering advice, signposting to other services, or supporting them through difficult situations (like family issues, mental health, or school pressures).

Essentially, pastoral support is about looking after the whole person — ensuring they feel valued, understood, and supported so they can thrive both emotionally and socially.

An example of on going support

A young person (YP) was referred to our service by there school for low mood and anxiety, focusing on building their confidence.

We firstly supported the YP through our REACH Wellbeing programme at their school, focusing on emotion support.

They then attended our after school club where we worked with the family in ensuring the YP feels comfortable and safe.

Through our pastoral support at clubs, the YP was confident enough to attend our pastoral team on the residential trip.

Why might a young person need
pastoral support?
  • Struggling with anxiety, low mood, or stress

  • Finding it hard to manage or express emotions

  • Experiencing low confidence or self-esteem

We understand that Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) — such as abuse, neglect, or challenges at home like domestic violence, parental separation, substance misuse or mental illness— can have a lasting impact on a young person’s health, development, and wellbeing.

At F4YP, we take confidentiality seriously. We understand that sharing personal information takes trust, and we respect the privacy and courage of every young person and family who speaks with us.
What is shared in confidence stays private within our team, unless we believe someone is at risk of harm. In those situations, we have a duty to share information with the right people to help keep everyone safe.

Family Support

At F4YP, we understand that every family looks different — and we celebrate that. Families aren’t always made up of parents and children living together; they can include grandparents, carers, foster families, special guardians (SGOs), adoptive parents, and wider support networks who play a vital role in a young person’s life.

We recognise the unique challenges that different family situations can bring, and our team offers understanding, flexible support that fits each family’s needs.

We believe that helping a young person thrive has a positive impact on the whole family — when a young person feels supported, confident, and understood, that wellbeing naturally flows through the home.

  • We work with the whole family, including siblings, parents, carers, and extended family members, to build stronger relationships and shared understanding.

  • Our team provides guidance and reassurance for families receiving new diagnoses, such as ASD or ADHD, helping them navigate services, access resources, and adjust positively.

  • We offer practical and emotional support during times of change or challenge, ensuring families feel listened to, respected, and included.

  • We attend and support families in TAF, CIN, and CPP meetings, acting as a trusted voice and advocate for the young person and their family.

  • Through signposting and multi-agency working, we connect families with the right professionals and community services for additional help when needed.

At Fun 4 Young People, we dont judge — every family and every young person is welcome, just as they are.

We understand that life can be complicated, and everyone faces challenges. Our role is to listen, support, and encourage, not to criticise or make assumptions. Whether a young person or family needs a little help or a lot, we offer understanding, respect, and a safe space where everyone feels valued.

Whatever your story, you’ll always be met with kindness, compassion, and an open mind at Fun 4 Young People.
